Announcing the 2025 ISS Keynote Speaker, Bill Reed
Bill Reed, internationally recognized planning consultant, design process facilitator, lecturer, teacher, and author in sustainability and regeneration, has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 16th Annual Intermountain Sustainability Summit (ISS) and will speak on March 20 at 8:10 a.m.
Reed is a founding Board of Directors member of the US Green Building Council, and one of the co-founders of the LEED Green Building Rating System. He is a principal of Regenesis, Inc. – a regenerative design, living systems integrator, and education organization.
His work centers on creating the framework for, and managing, an integrative, whole and living system design process. This work, known as Regenerative Development, aims to improve the overall quality of the physical, social and spiritual life of our living places and, therefore, the planet. The more immediate benefits of this process include higher efficiency, lower costs, reduced waste, faster time to market, and the realization of exponential value to the social, ecological, financial and human qualities of a project, the community and its ecosystem.
There is no doubt that Bill Reed is a leading thinker in this field, and has consulted on hundreds of green design commissions for buildings and city master plans.
Come learn more about Regenerative Development at the keynote and join us for two days of programming! The ISS brings together sustainability professionals and emerging leaders from education, business, government, and non-profit sectors.
It is a great opportunity to connect with peers and those implementing climate solutions across Utah and neighboring states. The public is welcome to register for the ISS here, and 日本一级片 faculty, staff, and students can register here.

Welcome SPARC’s New Staff
The Sustainability Practices and Research Center (SPARC) is excited to welcome two passionate sustainability advocates to the team!
Sadie Braddock is the new Sustainability Engagement Coordinator. A 日本一级片 alumna, she graduated in 2020 with a degree in Geography and minors in Environmental Studies and Sociology. During her time at 日本一级片, she was actively involved in sustainability efforts, serving as a Student Sustainability Coordinator and leading the Environmental Ambassadors Program. After graduation, Sadie completed a year of service with AmeriCorps, working with SPARC to manage the Empower Northern Utah Energy Efficiency program and co-coordinate the 2022 Intermountain Sustainability Summit. She then earned a Master’s in Environmental Sociology from Utah State University, where she researched the desiccation of the Great Salt Lake and public support for mitigation strategies. Sadie looks forward to applying her skills and experience to drive positive change both on and off campus.
We’re also thrilled to welcome back Shae Wood to the SPARC team for her second term with the Campus Compact EnviroCorps! Shae graduated from 日本一级片 in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Geospatial Studies. She first joined SPARC as the Student Sustainability Coordinator, and we are excited that she’s extending her time with us to continue making an impact. Shae is passionate about sustainability and community engagement, and is eager to keep contributing to 日本一级片’s sustainability initiatives. Whether it’s collaborating on outreach efforts or helping to plan sustainability events, Shae is dedicated to creating lasting positive change.

Cuppa Meetings with the Environmental Ambassadors Club.png)
Each month, the Environmental Ambassadors Club gathers at Cuppa for a fun and engaging meeting, combining sustainable commuting with the enjoyment of free coffee (with plant-based milk). While students sip, they discuss upcoming club activities, events, and opportunities to get involved. These meetings are a great way to stay informed, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and share ideas to make a positive environmental impact.
Beyond great conversations and coffee, these gatherings offer a chance to explore sustainable commuting options and help members reduce their carbon footprints. Students also gain insights into navigating the OGX system and become more comfortable with public transit. Cuppa meetings are a simple yet impactful way to support eco-friendly living while connecting with others who share your passion for sustainability.
Join the EA meetings on Wednesdays to get involved with the Environmental Ambassadors Club!

One of the actions for February’s “Education & Outreach” badge included writing a poem about sustainability. Here is the submission from 日本一级片 student Jenna Britton:
"Hope for Tomorrow”
It’s getting warm in here,
The signs of change are near.
I see a world that’s bleeding,
Hope feels like it's receding.
But maybe not for tomorrow,
A future bright, with less sorrow.
A sustainable path lies ahead,
If we all stand strong instead.
A path that’s green, a way to mend,
It’s the only way we’ll transcend.
Yes, there is hope for tomorrow,
Together, we can end this sorrow.
