February events at Weber State to explore ‘global tapestry’ of Black culture
OGDEN, Utah — As Black History Month kicks off nationwide, Weber State University invites all to attend a month-long celebration highlighting the culture and impact of Black communities.
Student clubs, community organizations and ÈÕ±¾Ò»¼¶Æ¬’s Student Success Center will host educational events throughout February centered on “The Global Tapestry of Black Culture.” Events are free and open to all campus and community members.
“I hope people realize that Black History Month is not just for Black students,” said Brandon Flores, executive director of the Student Success Center. “Black History Month is for everybody.”
Each week in February will focus on a different theme, with events ranging from free haircuts from a local Black-owned barbershop to various guests, including keynote speaker Sybrina Fulton.
Fulton gained national attention after the high-profile death of her 17-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, in 2012. Five years later, she co-authored the book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, and has become a respected voice for parents and others across the country.
Visit the Student Success Center’s website for a full list of events. Check back regularly, as some times and locations may change.
